About

Fran Duncan is a UK-based abstract artist whose work is deeply rooted in the themes of transformation, resilience, and connection to nature. Working with alcohol inks, she embraces an intuitive and symbiotic process, allowing the fluid medium to guide her rather than imposing rigid control. This method reflects her own philosophy—learning to welcome the unknown, finding beauty in the unpredictable, and allowing life to unfold organically. Her work is a meditation on impermanence and renewal, mirroring the shifting landscapes of both the external world and the inner self.

Living with the challenges of ME and scoliosis, Duncan’s artistic journey has been one of self-discovery and acceptance, navigating both personal adversity and creative evolution. Duncan challenges conventional notions of age and artistic productivity, her art practice is not just an act of making but a means of healing.

Inspired by the transient beauty of the British coastline, Duncan captures the quiet drama of brooding storm clouds, crisp winter air, and ever-changing light. Her paintings evoke a sense of grounding, drawing on the earth’s quiet wisdom and the intrinsic link between humans and the natural world. Through her work, she offers a moment of stillness—an invitation to pause, breathe, and reconnect.

Duncan’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including notable showcases at Earth Garden in Tokyo, Japan, Parissa Gallery in Carmel, California, and Jag Gallery in Brighton. In 2024, she was awarded the Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice grant, dedicating the year to deepening her artistic research and expanding her practice.

Through her paintings, Duncan invites viewers into a quiet conversation—one that speaks of change, of grounding, and of the unseen beauty that lies beneath the surface of our lives.
